Ethnic Day 09
Thursday, May 14 saw Avondale Intermediate students and teachers turn up to school dressed differently than usual. The school was highlighting its rich cultural diversity with the annual Ethnic Day celebrations. As well as wearing costumes that represented their culture students took part in a wide variety of cultural activities ranging from flax weaving and learning traditional songs, to having High Tea and taking part in a Kava Ceremony. The highlight of the day for most students was the shared feast where they tried foods from all over the world and shared their own favourites with their friends. Students had the chance to admire each others national costumes in an international fashion parade. Students from counties as diverse as Columbia, Ethiopia, Philippians, Scotland and of course the islands of the Pacific showed off their beautiful and varied attire.
